What is Delta 8?

The cannabis market is booming and there are a bunch of great cannabinoids for you to choose from, but Delta 8 is quickly becoming one of the most popular. This cannabinoid is super powerful and available in a wide variety of formulations. If you're a fan of cannabis products, this compound definitely needs to be on your radar!

An Introduction to Cannabinoids

Many people have heard the word "Cannabinoid" before, but how many actually know what they are? Cannabinoids are the seemingly magical compounds produced in cannabis. CBD, Delta-8, and Delta-9 THC are all forms of cannabinoids. These powerful compounds offer a wealth of benefits ranging from every-day wellness to recreational goodness.

Delta-8 is now one of the most popular cannabinoids out there. It's recent popularity has been influenced by laws becoming more leniant when it comes to recreational cannabis. So why is D8 considered recreational? Because it provides the user with a high similar to marijuana. This is due to its interaction with the endocannabinoid system. Let's take a look at the endocannabinoid system and how cannabinoids like Delta-8 THC influence it.

Understanding the Endocannabinoid System

It's always a good idea to understand what you're putting in your body and how it's going to effect you. Some types of cannabinoids are highly psychoactive and will get you super high. Some cannabinoids aren't psychoactive at all, but offer a wealth of other benefits. So how do they work?

In every mammal exists a complex series of retrograde neuro transmitters called the "endocannabinoid system". This system is made up of various receptors with different jobs. The CB1 receptor primarily influences the central nervous system and the CB2 receptor influences the peripheral nervous system.

When you take non-psychoactive cannabinoids such as Cannabidiol (CBD), they tend to indirectly interface with the CB2 receptor and have an effect on your body rather than your mind. When you consume psychoactive cannabinoids such as Delta-8 THC, they directly interface with the CB1 receptor and make the user feel high. There are 113 known cannabinoids, but a few of them have become particularly popular.

Delta-8 THC

Delta-8 THC is one of the most popular cannabinoids on the market, but it wasn't always this way. Ever since the Farm Bill was passed back in 2018, CBD has been the most popular cannabinoid out there. people used it for a multitude of reasons, but recreation really wasn't one of them. This is because CBD is not psychoactive, so it doesn't get you high.

The best Delta-8, on the other hand, is highly psychoactive and will get you as high as you'd like. Delta-8 is produced by both cannabis sativa and cannabis indica. It is widely known a slightly milder alternative to Delta-9 THC. That being said, it's all about how much you take. High-potency servings of delta-8 can get you seriously lifted. The high is often likened to the perfect middle ground between CBD and D9. This is because many users feel a perfectly balanced body and head high.

CBD

If you're hanging out at CBD.co, then you probably already know a bit about it. Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of 113 known cannabinoids produced in cannabis plants. This hemp-derived compound is not psychoactive, but has been popularized as a natural way to pursue wellness. Because CBD has been popular for a significant amount of time now, you can find it in all kinds of formulations. From gummies and tinctures to topicals and vapes, there really is something for everyone.

Like CBD, Delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol has become incredibly popular. You can choose from delicious Delta 8 edibles, concentrates, and more. These products are packed with terpenes and use various isomers of THC as the main ingredient. If you want to enjoy a nice recreational high, Delta-8 is the way to go. If you want to look after your body, then CBD might be perfect for you.

Delta-9 THC

Delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol is one of our all-time favorite forms of THC. When you think of that specific feeling you get from using marijuana, you're thinking about Delta-9 THC. This compound is know by a variety of different names but most people refer to it simply as THC.

Like the other aforementioned cannabinoids, Delta-9 is produced by various species of cannabis plants. It is present in industrial hemp (cannabis sativa), but it is found in higher concentrations in marijuana (cannabis indica). Manufacturers often prefer to extract D9 from cannabis indica, but due to FDA regulations, many of them are forced into to extract small amounts at a time from industrial hemp. This is a bit of a loophole and keeps them in compliance with federal laws that regulate the production of industrial hemp. This hemp is required to contain 0.3% THC or less.

Delta-9 is a highly psychoactive compound that is considered a controlled substance on a federal level. It is sometimes utilized in supplements for pain relief and other ailments, but it is primarily praised for its recreational merit. The effects of Delta-9 make Delta-8 seem a bit mellow in comparison, but both compounds produce a euphoric psychoactive effects that are widely praised and typically offer minimal side effects. Delta 10 has very similar properties to Delta 9, but like Delta 8, is a bit mild in comparison.
