What is CBN?
CBN stands for Cannabichromene, and it’s one of the lesser-known cannabinoids found in cannabis. Unlike THC and CBD, which are more well-known cannabinoids, CBN has been used in medical research for decades. But what does it actually do?
CBN is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid that’s often used as an additive to cannabis products to enhance their effects. It can also be taken alone as an isolate or as a tincture.
CBN Oil
CBN oil is a popular way to consume cannabis because it can be easily consumed orally or applied topically. In fact, some people use CBN oil as a way to treat skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis. However, not all cannabis oils contain CBN; some contain only phytocannabinoids like tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). In addition to treating skin conditions with CBN oil, some people use it as an alternative treatment for sleepless nights, chronic pain or other ailments.
CBN is a powerful and unique cannabinoid and oil tinctures are one of the most effective ways to access its benefits. While products, like CBN vapes, offer a rapid onset of effects, those effects are short-lived compared to those of CBN oil. When you use CBN oil, it takes anywhere from 20 – 45 minutes for the effects to really kick in.
Don’t get us wrong, we love vaping CBN, but utilizing it in tincture form definitely has its advantages. That being said, if you want long-lasting effects from CBN, tincture oil is an excellent choice.
All About the CBN Cannabinoid
Compounds like CBD and THC are hugely popular and have pretty much become household names at this point. Though CBN is immensely popular and impressively effective, we know that some of our customers might not yet be familiar with it. Well, we’re here to change that.
CBN offers a wealth of unique benefits, is available in a wide variety of formulations, and is definitely a cannabinoid that you shouldn’t miss!
CBN in Weed
CBN, just like CBD and THC, occurs naturally in the cannabis plant. Some people mistakenly think that cannabinoids like CBN and CBD are just new forms of weed. Well, nothing could be further from the truth.
Yes, CBN is produced in cannabis, but there are different types of cannabis. “Weed” is a nickname for a strain of cannabis called Cannabis Indica, while “Hemp” is cannabis Sativa. Legal cannabis products are typically extracted from FDA-compliant hemp that contains 0.3% THC or less. This means you can enjoy the huge variety of benefits from CBN without feeling any of the hazy side effects of THC.
One of the most important differences to remember about CBN and weed is that CBN is 100% non-intoxicating. Another important take away is that CBN is extracted from hemp (cannabis sativa) not weed (cannabis indica)
CBN vs CBD
CBN stands for Cannabinol. It’s a non-intoxicating cannabinoid that’s found in nearly all cannabis strains. CBD stands for Cannabidiol, which is another non-intoxicating cannabinoid that’s also found in nearly all cannabis strains.
Both CBN and CBD are considered to be biologically inactive until further processing takes place; they both need to interact with your endocannabinoid system for you to feel their effects. Both of these compounds are capable of producing various effects on the body when consumed orally, vaporized, or used in topical formulations.
CBN can also be produced from CBD by applying heat to the plant material that contains CBD; this process will convert some of the CBD into CBN. This process may also increase other cannabinoids such as THC or CBC due to decarboxylation (the removal of a carboxyl group).
Full-Spectrum CBD oil contains both THC and CBD in varying amounts, depending on what you’re looking for. CBN, on the other hand is typically offered in an isolate format. Lucky for you, we have both at CBD.co. Whether you’re looking for CBN + CBD, or want to treat yourself to a pure CBN isolate, we’ve got you covered!
CBN vs THC
As you now know, CBN and THC are cannabinoids that are found in both marijuana and hemp. There are plenty of differences between these two powerful cannabinoids, but the most notable difference for our purposes is the fact that THC is a highly psychoactive cannabinoid that is famous for making users feel “high”. CBN is utilized primarily for wellness purposes and is completely non-psychoactive.
